The Best Brunch Near Portland's Pearl District (And Why Locals Walk to Kingsland Kitchen)

Kingsland Kitchen · Downtown Portland · Est. 2015

If you're staying in Portland's Pearl District or spending the morning exploring its galleries, boutiques, and Powell's Books, you already know the neighborhood has no shortage of places to eat. But if you ask locals where they actually go for brunch — especially on a weekday morning when the Pearl's more well-known spots have a line out the door — a lot of them will tell you the same thing: they walk a few blocks south to Kingsland Kitchen.

We're at 301 SW Pine St in downtown Portland, which puts us about a 10-minute walk from the heart of the Pearl District. Close enough to be your obvious pre- or post-Powell's stop. Far enough that you'll almost always get a table.

What Makes Kingsland Kitchen Different

The Pearl District brunch scene skews toward big, buzzy, reservation-required spots — places that are great but can feel like a production. Kingsland Kitchen is the opposite of that. We've been open since 2015, we're walk-in friendly, and our whole thing is making really good food in a room where you actually want to linger.

We're an all-day brunch spot, open Thursday through Tuesday, 9 AM to 2 PM. No dinner service, no pivot to lunch at noon — just brunch, done right, start to finish.

The Dishes Worth Walking For

The Full English Breakfast — Portland's Best

Housemade Irish back bacon, proper bangers, blood sausage, Heinz beans, roasted tomato and mushrooms, HP brown sauce, and two perfectly sunny eggs on buttered white toast. Authentic, no shortcuts, no substitutions.

French Toast

Thick-cut local brioche soaked in a rich custard, griddled to a deep golden finish, topped with seasonal fruit, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. The dish Portlanders keep coming back for.

Eggs Benedict — Four Ways

Classic with honey ham, Chicken Benedict with buttermilk fried chicken, a Florentine, and Smoked Salmon Lox — all served with our chipotle hollandaise that has its own loyal following.

Cocktails Worth Mentioning

The Kingsland Bloody Mary uses a housemade mix with pickled veggies. The Pancake Shot (Jameson, butterscotch schnapps, syrup, bacon, OJ chaser) is exactly as good as it sounds. Mimosas by the glass or bottle.

Getting Here from the Pearl District

From Powell's Books on NW 10th, you're looking at about a 10–12 minute walk heading south and east through downtown — through the South Park Blocks, past the Portland Art Museum, and into the SW grid.

When to Come

Weekday mornings are the sweet spot — quieter, easier parking, and you'll almost never wait for a table. Weekend mornings are busier but still very manageable compared to the waits at the Pearl's most popular spots. We recommend joining the waitlist from your phone before you arrive.

For Hotel Guests in the Pearl

If you're staying at the Residence Inn, Inn at Northrup Station, or any of the downtown properties nearby, Kingsland Kitchen is an easy morning walk. Close enough to be convenient, far enough from the tourist drag that it feels like a local find. Because it is.

We've been doing this since 2015 and we're not slowing down.
