Portland Brunch Guide
The Best Brunch Near Portland's Old Town & Chinatown (A Local's Guide)
Kingsland Kitchen · Downtown Portland · Est. 2015
Old Town is one of Portland's most visited neighborhoods — and one of its least served for a proper sit-down morning meal. Here's where locals actually go.
Portland's Old Town and Chinatown district draws a lot of people. Tourists come for the Portland Saturday Market, the Lan Su Chinese Garden, the Skidmore Fountain, and the historic hotels that line the riverfront corridor. Workers commute through it daily on MAX. And on weekend mornings, the area fills up with people who have one clear need: a good breakfast before the day gets going.
The problem is that Old Town, for all its energy, doesn't have a lot of brunch options that feel right for that moment. There's plenty of late-night food and dim sum and coffee-to-go, but if you're looking for a proper sit-down breakfast — eggs done right, good coffee, a table to linger at — you'll find yourself looking one block south.
That's where Kingsland Kitchen comes in. We're at 301 SW Pine St, which puts us a three-to-five minute walk from the heart of Old Town, right at the border of the Skidmore Historic District. Close enough to be the obvious before-or-after for whatever brings you to the neighborhood. Far enough that you'll almost always get a table.
What's Near Us in Old Town
If you're spending time in the Old Town corridor, here are the landmarks you're likely walking from or to — and how close they are to Kingsland Kitchen:
Portland Saturday Market — Two blocks north. The largest continually operating outdoor arts and crafts market in the country runs Saturdays and Sundays from March through December. Come to us first; the market will still be there after you eat.
Lan Su Chinese Garden — Five-minute walk. One of Portland's most distinctive attractions, especially on a quiet morning. Kingsland makes a natural before-you-go stop.
Skidmore Fountain / Ankeny Plaza — Two blocks. The original heart of Portland, dating to 1888, and still a genuine gathering place on weekend mornings.
Society Hotel & Hotel Lucia — Both within walking distance. If you're staying in either, you're closer to us than most restaurants in your hotel's brochure.
Oregon Maritime Museum — On the foot of Pine St, which is our street. The museum is practically a neighbor.
What We Serve
Kingsland Kitchen is an all-day brunch restaurant, open Thursday through Tuesday, 9 AM to 2 PM. The menu is built around the kind of food that actually sets you up for a day of exploring: substantial, made from scratch, and worth lingering over.
A few things people come back for specifically:
We also have a full Benedicts menu with variations beyond the classic — check the full menu on our site or ask when you arrive.
On a Saturday Morning
Saturday is when the Old Town corridor really comes alive — the Saturday Market opens by 10 AM, the Lan Su Garden fills up with visitors, and the waterfront gets busy with walkers and cyclists on the Eastbank Esplanade loop. If that's your morning, here's how we'd sequence it:
Come to Kingsland first — we open at 9 AM, which means you can eat before the Saturday Market hits its peak crowd. You'll be at the market by 10 or 10:30, early enough to actually browse without fighting for space. Then the garden, then the waterfront if you want to stretch the day.
Walk-ins are always welcome. You can also join the waitlist from your phone before you arrive if you want to hold your place.

For Hotel Guests in the Area
If you're staying at the Society Hotel, Hotel Lucia, or any of the downtown properties along the waterfront corridor, Kingsland Kitchen is an easy morning walk — and a better option than the grab-and-go spots near the transit mall. We've been open since 2015, and we're used to people who have a day of Portland ahead of them and want a real meal before they start it.
We're the kind of place that doesn't show up in every hotel recommendation card — which is usually a good sign.
